Tim Ferriss and Becoming Superhuman
Recently on The Blog of Author Tim Ferriss, he announced his new book. It’s going to be called “From Rapid Fat Loss to Strongmen: A Guide to Becoming Superhuman”. The title and what he said about the book got me thinking.
From Tim’s blog post, he says
Cut 2% bodyfat in two weeks? No problem. Increase muscular strength 30% in 48-72 hours, or drop 50-100 pounds of fat? Not an issue.
Now in my opinion, losing weight fast or lifting really heavy weights does not necessarily make someone “Superhuman”. The requirements to be physically “Superhuman” is going to change depending on the individual. A person who can bench press 800 pounds might be considered physically “Superhuman” by some, but what about a person who can only walk a quarter mile?
A woman I would see at the gym who was morbidly obese could only walk about a quarter mile without passing out. That’s it. There was a medical professional standing by. In my opinion I would say that’s “Superhuman” for a person in her condition.
All of these physical accomplishments that can be considered “Superhuman” are the direct result of a “Superhuman” mindset. Without this mindset, none of these things would be possible. It’s the mindset and belief that it can be done that allows that morbidly obese woman to walk a quarter mile. It’s this mindset that makes a human “Superhuman”.
Our bodies are already “Super”. We are all capable of extraordinary things. It’s our mindset that turns our potential into a reality. Now some people might be able to get to a certain point quicker than others, but we all have the potential to get there. For example, if I wanted to play great basketball it might take me twice as long and I might have to work twice as hard as the next guy, but I can still learn to play great basketball.
I believe nothing is impossible. A particular workout routine or supplementation is not what makes the impossible possible. It’s the absolute belief that you can do it that does.
