Winter Fairie by Jennifer Acomb

The day after our little Winter Celebration, Jennifer and Karysa started working on a winter fairie. Today, Jennifer put the finishing touches on it by using some of the plants we have around the yard. For the hair, she used leaves from a rhododendron we trimmed earlier this year. For the eyes, she used the berries from a laurel bush. For the mouth, she used red berries from a cotoneaster. For the cheeks, she used the juice of berries from a Golden Charmer firethorn bush. It’s a variety of pyracantha that has bright yellow-orange berries. I think it came out pretty good!

Looming Kayla by Andrew Acomb

Yesterday, we had a little Winter party with a few friends. One of the things I did was teach Kayla how to make hats with a loom. Super easy!

We also made some cookies. We didn’t make as many as cookies we made for Halloween because there was a little cookie disaster earlier that morning, but I saved the day! I also made red, green, and white icing. In the next day or so we are going to make a lot more.

Hubert’s Noble Ridge Tree Farm

Andrew Acomb at Hubert's Noble Ridge Tree Farm for Christmas 2008

Yesterday, Jennifer and I went back to Hubert’s Noble Ridge Tree Farm to find our perfect Yule tree. Ray, Espie and Little Ray joined us. We arrived late in the afternoon, but there was still a little over an hour of light to find a tree. We found it just as the sun was setting for the day.

They have over 40 acres of trees separated into smaller fields of the same kind. After looking at a few different varieties like the Noble Fir and Douglas Fir, we decided on a Blue Spruce. This is the same type we got last year. I really like the green color with the hint of blue.

If your in or near Kitsap County, Hubert’s Noble Ridge Tree Farm is the place to go for that perfect tree. So many different types to choose from. Here’s a Google map to Hubert’s to help you find it.

Thanks Ray for taking this picture!
